Lost Tapes was my first foray into making a full album. I had made music before under the fake band name Elephant Moonshine (where Munchain comes from), but I hadn't published it anywhere. Back in the day, I had a Wordpress where I would review slasher franchises, and I decided to upload this album to a separate page.

When I sent the link to my friends at the time, they all said that it sounded a little discombobulated, lacked real riffs or melodies, and sounded like a soundtrack to a movie. Listening to it now, I don't disagree. It was meant to be more of a bunch of instrumentals to use for singing later, but I can definitely see how it could sound like the soundtrack to an indie movie. Also upon review, the compression on most things is overdone and the levels are terrible on most instruments. Just a mess.

This version is one that I re-edited after losing the original project files and stems. I had originally panned the bass, and I tried my best to fix it with stems. I also tried to fix how treble-heavy the music had originally been through some mastering tricks. There are still some issues with it, but it sounds so much better than when I first released it. The album cover is also so much better than what I originally had, which was some clipart of a marching band.

And here are some thoughts track by track, plus a bit about how I made each song.
